The Daily Mail reports a new “surgical cure” for endometriosis at £7000-9000 per operation.

The operation is based on the idea that deposits of endometrium cause pain. The surgeon removes all the lining of the pelvis (peritoneum which contains the endometrial deposits) and reports outstanding results – at a price. If pain results from abnormal nerves that infiltrate the peritoneum then removal of the peritoneum in this operation may assist symptoms. If, however, pain results from nerves infiltrating the cervix, uterus, ligaments, vagina then it is difficult to see how this operation assists ?
At such prices it is unlikely that many surgeons will support views that move towards non-surgical interventions.
